That is def freaky looking to me. Like a nightmare, ghostly things emerging out of darkness or bare walls.
It doesn't look like a flower to me at all. Much more cerebral than just a simple macro.

I love the colors and the compsoition. Great submission.

What can I say, I have a thing for tentacles. I blame Lovecraft. :) It still doesn't look scary to me, though.

I would also argue that there is seldom anything simple about a simple macro, if it is really macro in scale, as composition, lighting, color, and focus are frustratingly difficult to control. Hell, this one was easier than most macros, as I had no intention of actually focusing! :-D It was easier to shoot, I imagine, than the pretty preceding post by defunked.

Maybe I've been watching too much Bleach... :D

By simple, I didn't mean that the technique was simple. Macro is incredibly difficult both in the studio and in the field. That was a reference to simple macro pictures that have no further merit than "Oh wow! A gorgerous macro shot." and then never thought about again. There's nothing wrong with those photos, usually they are excellent and very enjoyable to the masses. I've shot those before and they sell pretty well. But sometimes, I like to read more into a picture than is actually there. A literal macro of a mimosa might not allow for that. This one, thanks to its funky depth of field and limited color palette, transcends that superficial beauty and, dare I say it, in the land of abstract art. >.>

defunked's shot is awesome, also. I just complimented it in that post. I hadn't seen that post. How did I miss it??? I love it, too! Bet it was a beast to get right!

It has similar abstract qualities, but retains its recognizable (to me) plant elements. A good blend, not alienating the realists but keeping it more interesting that just seeing it straightforward. That makes that picture really successful in its own right. One's not better than the other, IMHO, just different styles for different tastes/clients.

Carnal?? People keep throwing these adjectives at me that I just don't get! I guess that means I've done something right...? :) Thank you.
